ActionHouse is both a physical
location and a program, focused on helping participants
learn skills to enhance the quality of their daily life, and promote
workplace readiness, social relationships, and educational opportunities.
The focus is long-term recovery from severe mental illness and growth
toward independence.
Members participate daily in the psychological and social rehabilitation
process.
At the foundation of ActionHouse is the concept that everyone has the
capacity to learn and grow, while emphasizing the right of each participant
to direct his/her own affairs -- including decisions related to managing
psychiatric disability.
Daily activities are geared to enhance each person’s support networks,
social relationships, workplace activities, work skills training, and
community involvement.
ActionHouse members handle administrative, computer and clerical communications
functions involving the program’s daily operations. They
also participate in groups discussing topics such as stress management,
wellness recovery planning, management of illness, self-care, health
and others.
